Bioneers AP1: Learning About-From-To A Plant
The Yellow Weed You Always Step On
*My Bioneers class had came up with the idea of expressing the knowledge of certain plants that we chose. Even though nobody knows what species is fully evolved yet, we chose certain plants in nature and brought out their uniqueness about it. I am proud of my plant the Taraxacum (Dandelion Weed), because it's one of the most unique overlooked plants on earth. We see it in our gardens, and in grassy fields. We yank them out of the ground from their roots, not knowing how much they mean to some people on earth. What I learned was that it's important to some people on earth, like in Belgium. I learned that Belgium grows Dandelions as a crop in their country for a living. Dandelions in their country are used in recipes such as, soups, salads, and even spices.
Sean Mcmenemy, June 2013. Dandelion Plant
The organism I am studying about is the Taraxacum, and or Dandelion Weed. The dandelion is unique for many different reasons and I will elaborate on it. The origin of the place, the way it provides nutrients for humans, and the special abilities it has within it. The Taraxacum could teach human to be the underdog in the environment we live in. The Dandelion is stepped on and looked over but in reality the Dandelion is the underdog. For example, now-a-days there are people in society that are over looked as "the thing that is not wanted." So one of the ways humans can apply a dandelion's skill to their everyday life is to bring out the "nutritious" side of us. Meaning to apply one of our many talents that can help others and benefit us in certain areas and region. (Like a dandelion being used in other places on earth.)
The Dandelion is native in Eurasia, & North and South America around the year 1363. The name Dandelion comes from the French term "Lions Tooth". The English interpretation of the Dandelion is a weedy composite plant, Taraxacum officinale, having edible, deeply toothed or notched leaves, golden-yellow flowers, and rounded clusters of white, hairy seeds. In Belgium Dandelions are grown as an edible crop to humans and other species. There are multiple dishes from soups, to salads and all are very nutritious for you also. Inside the Dandelion plant there is a liquid called White Blood. The white blood can be consumed to detect the pregnancy of other plant seed.
In conclusion Dandelions are the most overlooked plant and or weed that many people need but do not realize. Dandelions are very helpful all across the world we just have to think about it. This is my Like A Tree Project.
